High performance silica plates (HPTLC)
Fast and quantitative analysis of complex samples for both manual and automated usage
Merck Millipore HPTLC (high performance thin layer chromatography) silica plates offer higher speed and higher sensitivity then classical TLC and are therefore optimally suited for sophisticated separations. Using instrumental equipment, HPTLC plates are the prerequisite for modern quantitative TLC.
The benefits at a glance:
- Faster analysis, only 3-20 min for optimum separations
- 5-10 fold increased sensitivity compared to classical TLC
- Highly reproducible, focused bands for quantitative analysis
- Gold standard for instrumental automatization
HPTLC plates from Merck Millipore utilize an optimized silica 60 sorbent with a particle size of only 5-6 µm compared to 10-12 µm used for classical TLC. This results in a higher packing density and hence a smoother surface. Reduced diffusion of the chromatographic bands leads to very compact sample zones or spots bands. The smaller particle size and the thinner layer (200 µm or 100 µm) ultimately result in highly increased sensitivity and faster analysis. Just as for classical TLC, Merck Millipore HPTLC silica plates are available either with glass or aluminum backing in a variety of different formats to suit many separation needs. Fluorescent indicators are: green fluorescent F254 or the blue fluorescent acid-stable F254s. Both indicators fluoresce in UV light at an excitation wavelength of 254 nm.
